Frequently Asked Questions Exactly how big are the paintings? The smallest painting measures about 36.25 inches (allowing some width for the folded canvas on the wooden frame) and is about 1 inch deep. Are the paintings framed or do I need to have that done? The paintings are unframed but many people choose not to frame them. The canvas is folded back and stapled on the back of the wooden frame and the edges are painted black. This gives a clean sharp edge which looks great without a frame; however, if you wish to have a custom frame made, any quality frame shop will have no problem accommodating your needs. How big does the original photograph have to be?
We would prefer an 8x10 inch photograph if you have it. The larger the photograph the better the facial features can be reproduced. A small 5x7 color photograph will do provided that the face to be reproduced occupies at least 70 percent of the picture area. This also applies to 5x7 black and white photographs or sepia tone (brown) prints.
In general, the photograph should be well lit, showing facial features in a three-quarter view (slightly turned to one side). If we feel the photograph you have sent will not make an excellent painting, we will ask you for another photograph. How long must I wait? The entire process takes about 10 to 14 days, including time for the paint to thoroughly dry. We execute each job as it arrives. If you need a portrait for a specific time or date, please order at least 3-4 weeks in advance. For holiday gifts (Christmas) please order early to avoid delivery delays. We ship the painting by your choice of FedEx or DHL where possible. Are there any hidden costs? No. We add sales tax when shipping to certain states and you will be charged the actual shipping costs, depending on your location and shipping method. Are the paintings done in oil or acrylic? We prefer to do the paintings in oil; however, if certain bright and unusual colors are required, they will be painted in acrylic pigments. All of our paintings are fade proof and water proof. What if I don't like the painting? Prior to executing the painting, a color digital reproduction (jpeg file) will be sent for your approval. We will paint the portrait exactly as shown so there should be no surprises or problems.
